As millions of people struggle to recover from monsoons that drowned 30 percent of Pakistan, generous Canadians are providing life-saving emergency supplies through Samaritan’s Purse.

The Calgary-based Christian relief organization is shipping four containers of supplies to Pakistan, including more than 5,000 kitchen sets, 5,400 water filters and 10,000 bags of dehydrated vegetable soup mix – which is the equivalent of a million meal servings.

“Even before flooding in Pakistan reached catastrophic levels, we were there providing aid,” said Jason Martens, Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s Asia project manager. “As the floodwaters rose, so did our response. Right now, emergency food, shelter, water, and medical care is being provided for thousands of families.”

The four containers will be unloaded and distributed by Samaritan’s Purse’s Pakistan partners, which were invited by the government to provide emergency help.

“The need in Pakistan is enormous and urgent,” said Martens. “From lives lost, to lost livelihoods, land and livestock, the impact on people’s food security and other basic needs is going to be long-lasting. That’s why we’re taking this step to ship relief items by ocean carrier. Reaching the port of Karachi by early November, we know that food and hygiene items will, sadly, still be a priority need for many.”

The idea is to help thousands of Pakistani families, in Jesus’ Name, who are struggling to stay alive in the hardest-hit and most remote places.
