The City of Lubbock released its 2021 water quality report Friday, indicating that Lubbock's tap water is safe to use and compliant with government regulations.
The annual report, an EPA requirement for all community water systems, shows levels of common substances and contaminants found in drinking water, such as chlorine, arsenic and lead. The report also breaks down water sourcing, explains treatment and distribution processes and offers important health tips and information.
Lubbock's 2021 report shows that the city's municipal water system is well within requirements, with contaminants and other substances below government-regulated levels.

"The City of Lubbock’s drinking water meets or exceeds all regulatory standards. We are proud to continuously deliver safe, pure, and reliable tap water to the citizens of Lubbock for their enjoyment," Aubrey Spear, director of Lubbock's water utilities, said in a news release.
The report additionally points out that 64 percent of the city's water comes from the Ogallala Aquifer via well fields in Bailey and Roberts counties. The other 36 percent comes from Lake Alan Henry and Lake Meredith.
